It’s the end of an era of sorts in St. Thomas. Southwestern Public Health today (Friday) announced it will close its mass immunization clinic at Memorial Arena in the city as of Sept. 10. The site has been open for six months and administered approximately 94,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
As of Sept. 13, the clinic will be scaled back and operate out of the health unit itself at 1230 Talbot Street. More than 80% of eligible residents in St. Thomas have been vaccinated against COVID-19 with at least one dose.
Jaime Fletcher, Program Manager overseeing the COVID-19 Vaccination Task Force notes, “This milestone – the scaling back of our St. Thomas Mass Immunization Clinics – is a shared success of our community.
“Our municipalities, community partners, volunteers, service clubs, primary care physicians and paramedics, and of course the clinic staff made this happen together. This success also belongs to the community members who rolled up their sleeves and got vaccinated when their turn came.”
The new hours of operation will be at the health unit location will be 9 a.m. to noon and 1 until 4.p.m., Monday through Friday. Any remaining first or second
doses scheduled at Memorial in September or October will be rescheduled to Talbot Street. Clients can anticipate a phone call, email, or text message from public health with the new time and location of their appointment.
