The province this morning is reporting 795 new COVID-19 cases with five deaths. A total of 336 people across the province are hospitalized with COVID-19, with 194 in ICU.
Southwestern Public Health is reporting 18 new cases with four resolved. There is one new case in St. Thomas, Central Elgin, West Elgin and Dutton-Dunwich.
The death toll remains at 85 since the pandemic began.
There are 85 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 25 in Woodstock, 11 in St. Thomas, nine in Tillsonburg, eight in Aylmer and SW Oxford, six in West Elgin, five in Ingersoll, three in Norwich, two in Bayham, Central Elgin and Blandford-Blenheim and single cases in Malahide, Dutton-Dunwich, Zorra and East Zorra-Tavistock.
A total of 1,103 cases have been variants of concern with 279 confirmed cases of the Delta variant.
There are no active institutional cases.
There are three hospitalizations at this time, with two in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 35.2 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
Sixty-eight of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, with 22 of those under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 4,037.
A total of 142,832 residents in the region have been fully immunized or 67.1 per cent.
There are 40.2 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 36.6 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 28.3 cases per 100,000 population and 106.8 cases per 100,000 population for Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 157 tests Wednesday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did 38 on Wednesday.
