Any thoughts of the People’s Party stealing votes from incumbent Karen Vecchio failed to materialize last night, quashing any hopes of Liberal candidate Afeez Ajibowu scooting up the middle to victory in Elgin-Middlesex-London. He placed a distant second behind Vecchio but insisted he was able to lay a good foundation for the future.
He emigrated to Canada with his family from Nigeria and now resides in London. He campaigned on the riding needing to have forward-moving representation with a commitment to an economic recovery plan, infrastructure funding and high-speed internet for rural communities.
Ajibowu remains strong in his conviction he and the Liberal party are the best choice to represent the people of Elgin-Middlesex-London on Parliament Hill.
It didn’t play out in that fashion Monday night. With 180 of 181 polls accounted for, Ajibowu had 11,765 votes or a 19% share. He trailed Vecchio by 18,679 votes.
