The province this morning is reporting 677 new COVID-19 cases, with seven deaths. Across the province, 307 people are hospitalized due to COVID-19, 193 of those individuals are in ICU.
Southwestern Public Health is reporting two new cases, with 16 resolved. One death was reported, an Elgin man in his 70s.
The death toll stands at 86 since the pandemic began.
There was one new case in Malahide and another in West Elgin.
There are 50 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 10 in Woodstock, seven in St. Thomas, six in Norwich, five in Ingersoll, four in Blandford-Blenheim, three in Aylmer and Tillsonburg, two in Bayham, Malahide, Southwold and West Elgin and single cases in Central Elgin, Dutton-Dunwich, East Zorra-Tavistock and Zorra.
A total of 1,133 cases have been variants of concern with 310 confirmed cases of the Delta variant.
There are no active institutional cases.
There are four hospitalizations at this time, with all four in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 36.4 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
Thirty-one of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, with six of those under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 4,105.
A total of 144,161 residents in the region have been fully immunized or 67.7 per cent.
There are 23.6 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 38.6 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 18.0 cases per 100,000 population and 40.0 cases per 100,000 population for Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 170 tests Tuesday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did 47 on Monday.
