The province this morning is reporting 727 new COVID-19 cases, with 11 deaths. Across the province, 308 people are hospitalized due to COVID-19, 193 of those individuals are in ICU.
Southwestern Public Health is reporting two new cases, with 12 resolved. There was one new case in St. Thomas and another in Bayham.
The death toll stands at 86 since the pandemic began.
There are 40 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with seven in Woodstock, five in St. Thomas and Norwich, three in Bayham, Blandford-Blenheim, Ingersoll and Tillsonburg, two in Aylmer, Malahide, Southwold and West Elgin and single cases in Central Elgin, Dutton-Dunwich and East Zorra-Tavistock.
A total of 1,133 cases have been variants of concern with 310 confirmed cases of the Delta variant.
There are no active institutional cases.
There are four hospitalizations at this time, with three in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 36.2 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
Twenty-eight of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, with six of those under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 4,117.
A total of 145,097 residents in the region have been fully immunized or 68.1 per cent.
There are 18.9 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region as compared to 40.2 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 12.9 cases per 100,000 population and 26.7 cases per 100,000 population for Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 169 tests Wednesday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did 65 on Wednesday.
