Thanks to the support of the Aylmer Optimist Club, a local St. Thomas family can now actively accept charitable donations to support their pursuit in purchasing a wheelchair adapted van for their 10 year old son.
Jamie Spurgeon, whose 10 year old son Oliver was born with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy, says the van is now necessary for the family as he has outgrown his current car seat.
As a family with multiple children, Spurgeon notes how essential a vehicle like this is to them.
Because a wheelchair adapted van holds a steep price tag, the family is reaching out to the local community explains Spurgeon.
During the fundraising process, the Spurgeon family connected with the Optimist Club in Aylmer and the Canadian Children’s Optimist Foundation, who accepted their request for support. Because of that, Spurgeon says they can now officially accept charitable donations for Oliver.
He adds that they are so thankful for the support they have already received from the community.
