It’s a simple demonstration of support for front-line hospital workers. One bench and one tree, a project of the landscape architecture students at the University of Guelph.
And on Friday, St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital became the third recipient in Canada of one bench and one tree. It’s a donation that offers a place for rest and reflection for hospital staff, explains student Alli Neuhauser.
The stone bench and maple tree are located at the hospital’s south entrance, adjacent to the gazebo.
At the ceremony, Neuhauser called it a gift of encouragement.
Every single day throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, staff have come to work and displayed an exceptional level of courage, advised hospital president and CEO Karen Davies. She called it a proud moment for the hospital.
Davies stressed it is support like this from the community that “is crucial to keeping our teams going under such difficult circumstances.”
The project was made possible through donations from Silverthorn Landscape Supplies, Kettle Creek Landscaping, Beamish Landscaping, Canadale Nurseries, Bob Allen Horticultural Services and Landscape Ontario.
