OPP advise speed, alcohol and lack of seatbelts are considered factors in a vehicle rollover Saturday evening in east Elgin that killed two people.
Just before 9 p.m., Elgin and Norfolk OPP along with emergency personnel from Elgin and Oxford were called out to a collision on Richmond Road involving two pickup trucks travelling northbound. One veered off the roadway, entered the ditch and rolled over several times. The driver and a passenger were thrown out of the truck.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, the other was taken to hospital where they died. A third person in the truck was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the second truck was not injured.
Elgin OPP have not yet released the names of any of those involved.
Richmond Road, between Vienna and Calton lines was closed overnight while the OPP continued their investigation.
