The province has announced it is providing up to $270 million this year to increase staffing at long-term care homes by more than 4,000 workers.
Rod Phillips, Minister of Long-Term Care, said it’s a case of taking action to improve the quality of care residents across the province receive and the quality of life they experience.
Valleyview Home in St. Thomas will receive up to $484,456 for additional staffing this year. Valleyview administrator Michael Carroll explains it’s funding that will be available for the next three years.
Phillips says the boost in funding will increase the daily average of direct patient care to three hours by the end of the current fiscal year next March 31st.
Carroll stresses long-term care homes in the province have been advocating for years for additional front-line workers.
He adds the funding will bring a whole new dimension to the provision of long-term care.
The funding is part of a $4.9-billion-dollar plan to boost staffing to provide long-term care residents with an average of four hours of direct care per day by 2025.
