Knotted at three after 40 minutes, the St. Thomas Stars dominated the final frame to earn their first home win of the campaign 6-4 over the London Nationals.
The Stars jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the second period on goals from Liam Kidder with his first of the year and Maddox Amaral with his fourth only to have the Nats net three straight to pull ahead.
Markus Hicks picked up his first goal of the campaign to lift the Stars even with London before the buzzer to end the middle frame.
St. Thomas stormed out of the gate to open the third period with goals from Amaral and Tanner Dietz in the first 21 seconds to wrestle back control of the game.
Ryan Nichols pulled the Nats to within a goal with less than seven minutes to play only to have Ben MacRobbie bury an empty-netter to clinch the victory at the Joe Thornton Community Centre.
In addition to his goal, Dietz contributed four assists while MacRobbie had a trio of helpers.
Owen Willmore faced 48 shots to record the win.
The win lifts the Stars out of the basement and ahead of the idle Strathroy Rockets.
The two teams go at it 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at the West Middlesex Memorial Centre. myFm will not have coverage of this game.
