The province this morning is reporting 598 new COVID-19 cases, with five deaths.
Southwestern Public Health is reporting 58 new cases since Wednesday with 34 resolved.
The death toll is 95 since the pandemic began.
There are 12 new cases in Aylmer, nine in St. Thomas, six in Bayham and one in Central Elgin.
There are 154 ongoing cases in the health unit’s coverage area with 37 in Woodstock, 34 in Aylmer, 21 in Tillsonburg, 19 in St. Thomas, 14 in Norwich, 13 in Bayham, six in Ingersoll, three in SW Oxford, two in Central Elgin, Zorra and East Zorra-Tavistock and one in Malahide.
As of today, more than 99 per cent of all new cases are of the Delta variant.
There are no institutional cases reported.
There are 12 hospitalizations at this time, with six in ICU. Of the cases hospitalized since the pandemic began, 36.0 per cent were admitted to the ICU.
One hundred and eleven of the cases are individuals under the age of 50, with 46 of those under the age of 20.
The number of resolved cases is 4,676.
A total of 152,884 residents in the region have been fully immunized or 71.8 per cent.
There are 72.8 ongoing confirmed cases per 100,000 population in the SWPH region – the highest rate in SW Ontario – as compared to 17.5 per 100,000 in the Middlesex-London Health Unit region. The crude rate for St. Thomas is 48.8 cases per 100,000 population and 453.8 cases per 100,000 population for Aylmer.
The assessment centre at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital undertook 125 tests Wednesday. The West Elgin Community Health Centre did 11 on Wednesday.
