Each year, Canada recognizes Restorative Justice week during the month of November, with the theme for 2021 being “Inspiring Innovation.” Our local Salvation Army does a lot of work in the area of Restorative Justice, with a big focus on Youth Justice.
Julia Parker, Executive Director explains the work they do through their Youth Justice Committee and Direct Accountability Programs here in Elgin County.
Parker says they work closely with the youth to help them figure out what their next steps are.
With the theme for this years Restorative Justice week being “Inspiring Innovation”, Parker touches on the programs they offer that help to do so.
This program serves Elgin County youth ages 12 to 17, with many other services including Anger management, Financial literacy, Resume building, and more.
While the Salvation Army has had to once again pull the plug on celebrating Restorative Justice week with their annual lunch, Parker says they have teamed up with a local business to recognize the week.
Those who purchase either Choco Choco Choo Choo, Candy Cane, or Apple Pie flavoured ice cream at the Ice Box this week will directly support the initiative.
