For 35 minutes the St. Thomas Stars held their own against the front-running Nationals tonight (Wednesday) in London.
And then a five-goal outburst in the last half of the game swamped the Stars who fell 7-2 at the Western Fair District.
Tristen Roberts with his sixth of the year wiped out an early London lead to leave the Stars knotted at 1-1 after 20 minutes.
In the middle frame, Nick Houben notched his ninth of the season to pull St. Thomas even at 2-2 midway through the game.
And then the proverbial wheels fell off the wagon with five unanswered goals from the Nats, including a pair from Jacob Julien to run up the score.
Jeff Burridge paced the London attack with a pair of goals and a couple of assists.
Owen Willmore faced 43 shots in the St. Thomas net and is now 3-8 on the season with a 3.61 GAA.
London has now won three of the four encounters so far this season.
With the loss, St. Thomas remains in 7th spot in the GOJHL Western Conference, three up on the Strathroy Rockets.
The Stars’ Friday home game against Leamington has been postponed and they return to the ice Sunday at 7:30 p.m. to host St. Marys at the Joe Thornton Community Centre.
