For the second time in a week, the St. Marys Lincolns overpowered the St. Thomas Stars right on their home rink.
Tonight, the Lincs’ powerplay took control as they defeated the Stars 5-2 at the Joe Thornton Community Centre. One week ago St. Marys prevailed by an identical score.
The result extends the St. Thomas losing streak to three games and over that stretch they have been outscored 17-6.
The tone of the game was set in the opening 80 seconds when the Stars’ Tyler Alexander was assessed a tripping penalty.
It only took Eric LaLonde 13 seconds to find the net for St. Marys.
The Lincs capitalized on two more powerplays before Alexander scored his second goal of the season for St. Thomas 47 seconds into the final frame to cut the St. Marys’ lead to 3-1.
Jorden Daer and Sean Aitken added insurance markers before Jackson Dobbin picked up his first goal of the season for St. Thomas.
Tyler Roberts was between the pipes for St. Thomas, facing 29 shots.
The win propels the Lincs into fourth place in the GOJHL Western Conference, a point behind the Komoka Kings.
It was a costly loss for the Stars as Strathroy’s 6-4 win over Chatham on Saturday pulls them even with seventh-place St. Thomas.
By a strange twist of scheduling the Stars and Lincs meet up again Friday evening at the Joe Thornton Community centre in a 7:30 start.
