With online learning more accessible to students as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Thames Valley District School Board is changing the way they do “snow days” this year.
Riley Culhane, Associate Director of Education with the TVDSB explains that on snow days, work will be uploaded by teachers for students to access.
Culhane did say that this work will be based on the knowledge and lessons they’ve already learned, to provide them with more learning opportunities. He says students who do not complete the work will not be penalized.
As far as reaction to the news, Culhane says that parents seem to be happy with the change, but students are the ones who are a little more upset.
The London Catholic District School Board also released their plans for snow days, saying in a letter released to parents “on the rare occasion schools are closed due to inclement weather, students should take this opportunity to complete current work or assignments; or prepare for upcoming assignments, quizzes or tests.”
