Part of the reason for the city’s recent uptick in COVID-19 cases came to light Friday morning during Southwestern Public Health’s board meeting.
Medical officer of health Dr. Joyce Lock advised of a “very significant” outbreak at an unidentified St. Thomas homeless shelter.
Some of the approximately 10 individuals involved were isolating at the Glenhaven Motel on Talbot Street in the city’s east end.
According to an update from the health unit this morning, most of these individuals are now housed at the former Wellington Street Public School, which has been converted into a temporary isolation site.
They will isolate for a period of 10 days and the city along with other community and healthcare agencies will attend to their basic needs.
