Normally a large number of police officers walking around a shopping centre is a sign of something big going down. That was just the case Tuesday night at Walmart, where the St. Thomas Police Service hosted their first ever Shop with a Cop event.
That consisted of forty tweens who were nominated by local Community Partners, that got the chance to shop the aisles with a officer and spend a $100 gift card on anything they wanted.
Cooperate Communication Officer Tanya Calvert explains that by hosting this event, with help from Doug Tarry Homes and other supporters, they were able to give these tweens something they actually want for Christmas.
Calvert says the experience was different for each participant, as they were given the ability to spend how they’d like.
She adds that the entire event was enjoyed by all involved.
The hope is to turn Shop with a Cop into an annual event.
