With the province announcing that students would not be returning to in person learning until at least January 17th, those hoping to apply for emergency child care throughout St. Thomas and Elgin will have until Thursday to do so.
To support the parents of school-aged children who may not be able to support their child’s learning/care at home, the city and county, in partnership with the the Ministry of Education, will be supplying emergency child care for school-aged children, at no cost to eligible families.
A number of individuals with specific occupations are eligible, with a complete list available online.
Initial applications for Emergency Child Care must be received by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 6th for review by Children’s Services on Friday. The city notes that it is not expected that Emergency Child Care placements will begin before Monday, January 10.
There is a limited number of Emergency Child Care spaces available in St. Thomas and Elgin County, with demand expected to exceed current capacity.
