A portion of Talbot Street was closed to the public Wednesday night following a fire in a vacant building.
The St. Thomas Fire Department received the call for service around 11:08 p.m., with crews clearing the scene around 2:30 a.m.
The cause of fire in the vacant building located at 1022 Talbot Street is still under investigation, however it is suspected that the fire was lit intentionally to provide a source of warmth.
Chief Fire Prevention Officer Kim Destun says that with an uptick in vacant structure fires across the city, those who may neighbour other vacant buildings are asked to keep an eye out.
Crews are expected to return today to further investigate.
