The province’s top doctor last week said he can’t guarantee capacity limits will be eased and businesses shuttered under the latest pandemic restrictions will be allowed to return to normal by January 26th.
Earl Taylor, chair of the St. Thomas Downtown Development Board stresses city restaurants are going to be hit hard the longer restrictions remain in place.
Dr. Kieran Moore says he understands business groups have been calling for greater clarity on the restrictions in light of students returning to in-class learning on Monday.
The capacity restrictions once again unfairly target small businesses, advises Earl Taylor.
Taylor feels small businesses will battle through these restrictions which allow for 50 per cent capacity as opposed to a complete lockdown as has been the case in the past.
To further aggravate matters, Dr. Moore last week advised when the restrictions will be eased depends on when COVID-19 admissions to hospitals and intensive care units peak during the Omicron wave.
He expects to get greater clarity on when restrictions might be slowly and carefully rolled back sometime this week.
