A trio of Chatham power-play goals erased a hard-earned St. Thomas lead and handed the Maroons a come-from-behind 5-4 win Sunday afternoon.
Newcomer Jackson Phillips opened the scoring late in the opening frame and added a second with four minutes to play in the middle stanza as the Stars built up a 4-3 lead after 40 minutes.
Mathieu Paris with his 12th of the season and Connor Sneddon with his first in a St. Thomas uniform powered the Stars’ into the lead against the third-place Maroons.
For Sneddon it’s just his second game with the Stars.
It was all for naught in the final 10 minutes of the game as Dylan Glinski and Cameron Welch netted goals in a five-minute span to clinch the win at Chatham Memorial Arena.
Tyler Roberts was in net for St. Thomas and faced 43 shots.
Chatham overpowered Strathroy 6-2 on Saturday allowing the Stars to maintain a one-point lead over the Rockets for seventh place in the GOJHL Western Conference standings.
The Stars are off now until Friday when they host LaSalle in a 7:30 p.m. start at the Joe Thornton Centre.
