Ontario Premier Doug Ford this morning declared a state of emergency in response to ongoing blockades in Ottawa and Windsor.
Canadian auto parts manufacturer Magna International says some customers have had to cut production due to the blockade at the Ambassador Bridge between Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit.
He says fines for non-compliance will be up to $100,000 and up to a year imprisonment.
He outlines what the legal measures will protect.
Ford added the legal measures make it “crystal clear” it is illegal and punishable to block and impede the movement of goods, people and services along critical infrastructure.
The protest in solidarity with others calling for an end to COVID-19 restrictions is disrupting the flow of auto parts and other products — forcing Ford, Toyota and Stellantis to curtail production.
