Following a traffic stop on Monday that turned up an imitation hand gun, the Aylmer Police Service are sending an important public safety message to residents.
Police stress that officers cannot immediately tell if your gun is real or fake, and to avoid confrontation, do not show an imitation gun in public or leave in a vehicle.
The service notes that sometimes a fake gun, which could include Airsoft, BB or pellet guns, replica or prop guns, paintball guns and toy or novelty guns, are indistinguishable from a real gun because of the attention to detail.
In this case, the 17 year old male involved in the traffic stop was educated on ways to keep the imitation gun out of sight and locked in a case to prevent misunderstandings, accidents or theft.
