The St. Thomas powerplay was firing on all cylinders Friday night at the Joe Thornton Community Centre as five different players found the net to power the St. Thomas Stars to a 5-2 win over the Strathroy Rockets. The victory gives the Stars sole possession of 7th place in the GOJHL Western Conference.
Brandon Balazs opened the scoring 10 minutes into the game to give the Rockets a brief 1-0 lead.
Tristen Roberts tied it up two minutes later on a powerplay and then a pair of powerplay goals in the second period from Paterson MacNair and Mathieu Paris lifted the Stars into a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes.
Maddox Amaral with his 11th of the season and Tyler Alexander with another powerplay effort upped the lead to 5-1 before Noah Nelson closed out the scoring for the Rockets who were outshot 45-27, including 17-7 in the middle frame.
Owen Willmore earned the win in net.
The Stars get a couple of days off and then play a Family Day matinee in St. Marys against the fourth-place Lincolns.
