For the second time over the weekend, the St. Thomas Stars built up a 2-0 lead over their opponents but Sunday in St. Marys, they didn’t surrender the lead and edged the Lincolns 2-1.
It was their first win over the Lincs in five attempts this season.
St. Thomas has now crafted a modest three-game winning streak dating back to a 6-2 win over Komoka on Feb. 26.
Patterson MacNair opened the scoring for the Stars six minutes into the game and neither team could again find the net until Connor Snedden buried a power-play goal at 1:24 of the final frame.
Spencer Hazell ruined Owen Willmore’s shutout bid with seven minutes to play.
The Stars remain three points ahead of eighth-place Strathroy after the Rockets defeated Sarnia 5-2 on Saturday.
St. Thomas is back in action Friday when they host the cellar-dwelling Sarnia Legionnaires in a 7:30 p.m. start at the Joe Thornton Community Centre.
