A second road trip to LaSalle in 24 hours took its toll on the St. Thomas Stars Thursday night as they were stung 7-2 by the Vipers.
The previous night they dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision to LaSalle.
The Stars kept it close in the opening 20 minutes, taking the lead nine minutes into the game on Mathieu Paris’ 20th goal of the season. Patrick McManus knotted the game just before the first intermission.
LaSalle took charge in the middle frame, outscoring the Stars 3-1 on goals from Drew Booker, Nic Pavia and Brody Gillis, with Nick Houben responding for St. Thomas.
The Vipers ran up the score in the final 20 minutes as Jack Greenwell, Pavia with his second of the game and Spencer Lecot put the puck behind Stars’ netminder Tyler Roberts.
With the win, LaSalle took the season series 4-2.
The Stars get no respite as they are back on the ice tonight at the Joe Thornton Community Centre to host the front-running Leamington Flyers who overpowered St. Marys 4-1 last night.
Puck drop is 7:30 p.m.
