An increased speed limit on Highway 402 between London and Sarnia introduced as a pilot project will become permanent as of April 22nd.
The pilot project began in September of 2019 and involved six sections of provincial highways where the limit was raised to 110 km/hr.
The province announced Tuesday that the six sections of highway have had collision trends similar to highway sections with 100 km/hr speed limits.
Street racing penalties will continue to be enforced at 150 km/hr.
The following sections of provincial highways in southern Ontario will also see the permanent increase…
- Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) from Hamilton to St. Catharines (32 km)
- Highway 417 from Ottawa to the Ontario/Quebec Border (102 km)
- Highway 401 from Windsor to Tilbury (approximately 40 km)
- Highway 404 from Newmarket to Woodbine (approximately 16 km)
- Highway 417 from Kanata to Arnprior (approximately 37 km)
In addition to raising the speed limit permanently on sections of highways in southern Ontario, the province is also raising the speed limit to 110 km/h on a trial basis for sections of provincial highways in Northern Ontario including-Highway 400 from MacTier to Nobel (approximately 55 km) and Highway 11 from Emsdale to South River (approximately 45 km).
