A pair of St. Thomas residents are out thousands of dollars after being bilked in separate scams.
A 71-year-old woman lost $8,500 after falling victim to a romance scam. The woman believed she was in a relationship with a man she met online and sent financial assistance to cover travel expenses to come meet her.
And, a 74-year-old man is out $5,400 after he was contacted about suspicious activity on his VISA card.
St. Thomas Police advise banks will never contact a customer to assist in an investigation.
Police add, to protect yourself and your money, visit antifraudcentre.ca for information on a variety of scams now circulating.
