The Special Investigations Unit has cleared a St. Thomas Police officer of any wrong doing, following an overdose of a man in custody.
The incident in question took place on December 9, 2021 following the arrest of the 29 year old male for driving while impaired by drugs.
Details of the investigation note the male was arrested in the parking lot of a Chestnut Street Church, where he admitted to using an unknown amount of cocaine. While in custody, the man fell into medical distress and an ambulance was called and he was taken to hospital.
A look into the night has led SIU Director Joseph Martino to find no reasonable grounds to believe the St. Thomas officer committed a criminal offence in connection to the incident.
Full details into the investigation can be found here.
