Flooding in Port Stanley February 2022
Are you prepared in the event of an emergency? Could you keep your family safe for 72 hours without power?
These are the questions you should be asking yourself with May 1st to 7th being Emergency Preparedness Week.
The St. Thomas Fire Department will be assisting by using the week to help educate the community on some of the possible emergency situations that could occur locally.
Chief Fire Prevention Officer Kim Destun notes that residents should be prepared for anything.
Destun adds if the past few years have been any indication, an emergency can happen and it’s better to be prepared.
She says the first step is to put an emergency plan in place.
Destun notes another important piece of the puzzle is creating an emergency kit that will allow you to sustain yourself and your family for at least 72 hours.
Suggested items include cash, an extra set of keys, bottled water, a first aid kit, food, flashlights and batteries among others.
A complete list of recommended items and more tips can be found here.
