They say the average person walks more than 10,000 steps a day. But what if taking just 13,000 steps throughout the month of May was enough to help raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Society Southwest Partners?
Well that’s exactly what they’re asking of participants of this year’s IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s in support of the 13,000 people living with Alzheimer’s and Dementia in Elgin, Middlesex and Oxford Counties.
myFM spoke with Carol Walters the CEO of the Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners who notes that while that number represents those diagnosed with the disease, many more people are impacted.
Walters says to help raise awareness about Dementia, the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s will return with an in-person component taking place Saturday, May 28th at Pinafore Park.
She notes that residents of St. Thomas-Elgin have already stepped up in a big way.
And the local event has already reached 84% of their goal, with $16,824 raised.
Walters adds that it’s not to late to get your steps in and join the Alzheimer’s Society Southwest Partners at Pinafore Park on Saturday.
Registration for the walk takes place at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, with the opening ceremonies kicking off at 10:15 and the walk beginning at 10:30.
