After serving as mayor from 2003 through 2006 and sitting as a councillor for the past dozen years, Jeff Kohler is seeking re-election to council in the October municipal vote.
In his 2018 successful re-election bid, he put forward the necessity of “securing our future,” which can be accomplished by promoting local economic development.
He has high praise for the work accomplished by the current council, in spite of challenges related to the pandemic.
If re-elected, Kohler wants to focus on the quality of life in St. Thomas, with particular attention toward affordable housing, transit and low, competitive taxes.
With a belief he has much more he can contribute to the city, Jeff Kohler has served as a councillor since 2010 and part of his pledge to improve the quality of life in St. Thomas is to continue the work done by this council in the area of affordable housing.
Kohler adds he will also focus on improvements to the city’s transit system, based on feedback received from Railway City Transit users.
He says whatever the make-up of the new council, members have to ensure the city has adequate residential and employment lands for future growth.
One component of quality of life in St. Thomas, notes Kohler, is end-of-life care.
By building on the momentum generated by the present council, Kohler advises this will result in St. Thomas remaining as a highly ranked community in which to live, work and play.
