The installation of new sanitary sewers, forcemains, sewage pumping stations, and watermains means Sunset Drive is closed to through traffic south from the Gateway Roundabout down to Stanley Street.
This is being undertaken to support new residential growth in the northwest corner of the city.
Nathan Bokma, project manager, explains the exact location of the work.
The population of St. Thomas is expected to surpass 50,000 by 2041, requiring the city to adjust its urban area boundary to accommodate this potential growth as part of an Official Plan review.
Bokma advises every effort is being made to allow the V.A. Barrie disc golf course to remain open during the disruption.
Sunset Drive will remain open for local traffic.
Two detour routes are in place and Bokma says the work is expected to be completed by the end of November.
