The addition of exterior Wi-Fi access points and outdoor classrooms within the Thames Valley District School Board are set to benefit both staff and students.
Last year, the Thames Valley repurposed unused Outdoor Education Funding to develop 20 outdoor classrooms, using natural materials to create seating for students and staff.
This school year, outdoor education classrooms have been installed at three additional schools, with plans for 15 more in the future.
Among the 23 schools already utilizing an outdoor classroom is Central Elgin Collegiate Institute in St. Thomas.
The TVDSB note that the addition of the Wi-Fi access points not only makes it easier for staff to take attendance and document learning outside but can help develop creative learning activities outside the classroom.
The installation project began in early 2021 and was completed in April 2022.
