Local farmer Jay Curtis is doing what he does best to give back to the healthcare system that supported him when he needed it most.
A beautiful field of sunflowers has been planted on his farm for the second year in a row, as a way to raise money for local hospitals.
Two years ago, Curtis was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, a journey he says was full of excellent care and treatment.
This year, Curtis decided to support his local hospital, with all money raised through “Sunflowers for Hope”, supporting the Chemotherapy Unit at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital.
Residents are invited to visit the farm and see the sunflowers in full bloom, take a flower, snap some photos and donate in support of the cause.
Curtis says that a cash donation box will also be set up on site. In addition, all leftover sunflowers will be utilized as part of the fundraiser.
For those hoping to stop by, Curtis asks that everyone does their best to be respectful and as safe as possible.
Curtis notes that the sunflowers should be ready for picking by the long weekend, continuing for roughly 2 to 3 weeks.
The sunflower field is located across from 44305 Mapleton Line, St. Thomas.
