Education Minister Stephen Lecce on Monday announced a five-point plan to help students catch up in the coming school year after two years of pandemic restrictions that includes a full resumption of extracurricular activities.
myFM had the opportunity to speak with Patrice Barnes, Parliamentary assistant to Education Minister Stephen Lecce about “The Plan to Catch Up.”
The plan calls for students to be in the classroom on time in September with access to activities like sports and clubs, as well as new tutoring to fill gaps in learning and what they call historic funding for mental health supports.
Barnes adds that preparing students for the jobs of tomorrow is also a big focus.
Ontario’s Plan to Catch Up is squarely focused on the priorities of parents and includes five key components:
- Getting kids back in classrooms in September, on time, with a full school experience that includes extra-curriculars like clubs, band, and field trips;
- New tutoring supports to fill gaps in learning;
- Preparing students for the jobs of tomorrow;
- Providing more money to build schools and improve education; and
- Helping students with historic funding for mental health supports.
