We’re roughly 6 weeks out from back to school and a ball hockey tournament taking place this weekend, looks to make it the “Best First Day” for local students.
Running July 30th to 31st at Rosethorn Park in St. Thomas, organizer Justin Abel says the tournament looks to raise funds to purchase school supplies for children in need in our community.
While the “Best First Day” is a United Way and Thames Valley Education Foundation campaign, Abel notes this is the first time he’s hosting a tournament in support of the cause.
A silent auction will also being running on the Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring a number of generous donations and gift cards from local businesses.
With no monetary goal in mind, Abel notes its more about supporting a great cause!
And to help support his daughter’s new school, nonperishable snacks will also be collected that day.
A number of food trucks and vendors will be on site during the day Saturday, with playoffs continuing on the Sunday.
Abel adds that if anyone is still interested, a few player spots are still available or if you have a full team willing to play, more can be added to the schedule. A team includes four players plus a goalie, with the fee being $20 a head.
