While previously celebrated through small events and flag raisings across the city and county, St. Thomas-Elgin will be hosting their first major PRIDE week from August 6th to 13th.
Thanks to members of the Rainbow Optimist Club of Southwestern Ontario, an extensive list of events and activities have been planned for each day next week.
It will all conclude with Pride in the Park on Saturday, beginning at noon in Pinafore.
myFM spoke with Devon Church, member of the Rainbow Optimist Club who notes it’s an exciting first for St. Thomas-Elgin!
As we work towards a more inclusive and accepting community for all, Church notes that events have been planned for people both young and old.
That includes a Pre-Pride Drag Show taking place tomorrow at The Whiskey Rocks, a Pride Dance at the Ignite Youth Centre on Monday, a Pride Community Swim at the YMCA on Friday and a Movie Night in the Park to end off the celebration Saturday night.
As we prepare to celebrate PRIDE week locally, Church reminds residents how they can show support for members of the LGBT2Q+ community.
