It’s one thing to lock the keys in your vehicle. It’s another to have a young child locked inside with the keys, especially on a hot day.
It happened this past Saturday at the 401 service centre in Dutton-Dunwich.
Elgin OPP responded to the call and a tow truck operator was able to open the door for the parents. No injuries were reported.
What do you do if your child is locked in a car? The OPP provided the following tips…
- Call 9-1-1 for help. Police and fire personnel will be immediately dispatched to your location.
- Block the sunlight.
- Remain calm.
- Take note of the time.
“The OPP would like to take this opportunity to thank our towing partner that assisted with this incident. The OPP is also encouraging all parents and caregivers to carry their vehicle keys on their person at all times in case the locks on the vehicle engage without notice or their child accidentally locks the doors once they are placed inside.” – Inspector Mark Loucas, Detachment Commander, Elgin County OPP.
