With local students returning to the classroom this week, don’t be surprised by an increased police presence in school zones.
The St. Thomas Police are among area forces putting a focus on back to school and how both motorists and pedestrians need to act.
Tanya Calvert Corporate Communications Coordinator with the STPS notes it’s an important reminder as we get set for a return to a normal school year.
Calvert says that officers will be out in full force for the first day of school.
Something new that residents will have to look out for this school years notes Calvert is the addition of amber lights to school buses in Ontario.
For students who take the bus each day, Calvert reminds them to stay as far away from the curb as possible when waiting to be picked up. Make sure the bus is fully stopped, with the arm bar activated before attempting to board.
She also has a few reminders for those who don’t take a bus.
By taking just a few minutes to review these tips, you can help make sure area students have a safe school year.
