An abundance of negativity on social media directed at the city and municipal leaders is a motivator for one St. Thomas resident to campaign for a seat on municipal council.
Joe Docherty Jr. says the comments generate more negative feedback which – quote – “feeds the beast.”
Docherty adds that there are many things in St. Thomas that require improvement, but they are not solely the responsibility of city council.
He stresses, however, municipal government is ultimately the government people see every day.
City council could do a better job of communicating what it is undertaking with other levels of government, advises Docherty, as a way of dealing with social media negativity.
Docherty adds, “I want to be clear and honest with people. If people have a question, I’ll find the answer.”
Because municipal government is so important in people’s daily lives, Docherty stressed the need to get out and cast your ballot in the October election.
