New research based on a study undertaken in London suggests safer opioid supply programs can significantly reduce emergency department visits and hospitalizations for people at risk of overdose.
Tara Gomes, the Toronto-based lead author of the Canadian Medical Association Journal study, says the findings show such programs can be beneficial and safe.
The study published Monday looked at people who used a safer supply program in London from 2016 to 2019.
