Quebec-based Sollio Agriculture is shutting down six grain elevators in SW Ontario, including its Talbotville location.
It’s part of Sollio’s move to wind down its Ontario Grain operations.
Sollio is a majority shareholder in the Ontario Grain partnership. It acquired the assets in 2018. It says it plans to continue serving clients during the 2022 harvest season, albeit at a reduced capacity.
The other elevators are in Lambton County, Essex County, Chatham-Kent, Wellington County and Oxford County.
The services offered to farmers are grain drying, cleaning and storage.
Typically the elevators are demolished after being shut down, however it is not clear what Sollio plans to do with the structures.
Exactly one year ago, Sollio announced it was investing over $20 million to build and operate a fertilizer coating plant in St. Thomas.
A link to that story isĀ here.
