There were many special stories to tell at the Railway City Road Races on Sunday. However, the story of Sarah Mooney and Sean Levins stood out.
They ran the 5 kilometre race with 18lb weighted vests strapped on, in honour of police officers Andrew Hong and Travis Gillespie, who were both killed this month in the GTA.
Mooney is an avid runner, but this was the first ever race that she completed with the weighted vest on. She tells myFM News that it was the least they could do to honour their memory.
Mooney, who is an avid runner, says this was a special race for her.
To top it all off, Levins is currently battling cancer and undergoing chemo treatments at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital. Mooney says she drew inspiration from her friend during the race.
Mooney, originally from Aylmer, is a corrections officer in Niagara, while Levins is from St. Thomas.
