Calling the concept – quote – “kind of cool,” Jeff Bray, the city’s director of Parks, Recreation and Property Management, is floating the idea of making Curtis Street more pedestrian friendly.
It came up at last week’s council meeting when members approved a motion to begin developing Westlake-Evans Civic Park, adjacent to St. Thomas Public Library.
Bray would like to close a stretch of Curtis Street in front of the park on certain occasions to make it pedestrian friendly. He calls it a civic precinct where you’ve got city hall, the library, the new park and childcare centre.
Ultimately, added Bray, the short stretch of road could be permanently closed.
