After finishing third behind Joe Preston and Heather Jackson in the 2018 municipal vote, it appeared Steve Wookey’s time on council may have run out.
However, in March 2020, council was faced with the death of second-term councillor Linda Stevenson and Steve Wookey was appointed to fill the vacant seat.
In announcing his bid to return to the council chamber, Wookey makes it clear it would not be in a mayoral capacity.
Now that he has retired from teaching, Wookey notes he has added time to devote to council business, something he has enjoyed this past term.
Dealing with the homeless is key concern with residents he has spoken to while campaigning.
But while knocking on doors, Wookey is hearing about a variety of other issues.
He admits recreational activities such as the city’s trail network is a passion of his.
Wookey played a key role this term in ensuring non-motorized boating and fishing would be allowed at Lake Margaret.
