Parents in Ontario are facing the prospect of finding someone to mind their kids on Monday.
More than 50,000 education workers have given notice they plan to go on strike after talks with the province broke down earlier today.
The union says the two sides have agreed on wages, but is still looking for guarantees of higher staffing levels for educational assistants, librarians, custodians and secretaries.
It also wants an early childhood educator in every kindergarten classroom and not just classes that have more than 16 students.
CUPE’s Laura Walton says its not just about money but also about improving student services. She says parents have demanded more for their kids.
Education Minister Stephen Lecce says the government is disappointed, adding the province has tabled multiple improved offers that would see the pay for the lowest earners in the union, and others, addressed.
