The Salvation Army launched its St. Thomas Christmas Kettle Campaign Friday morning on the steps of city hall.
This is their only fundraiser of the year and so the six-week campaign is crucial.
Along with Mayor Joe Preston, Capt. Jon Savage announced an ambitious financial target.
Savage noted all of the money raised during the campaign remains in the city to operate their youth, community and outreach programs.
So far this year, says Savage, close to $20,000 has been spent helping individuals and families with groceries.
Perhaps when you are out and about shopping you spot one of those familiar Salvation Army red kettles.
You would love to contribute to this year’s Kettle Campaign but you are only carrying credit cards.
Not a problem, assures Capt. Savage.
He adds while donations are so important for the annual fundraiser, the need for volunteers is just as great at this time of year.
