The Ontario government unveiled a multi-phase plan on Monday morning to have thousands of publicly-funded surgeries performed in private clinics. Premier Doug Ford stressed the plan is aimed at tackling the massive backlog of surgeries across the province.
Premier Doug Ford and Health Minister Sylvia Jones say the procedures will still be covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan.
The first phase will focus on expansion of cataract surgeries, followed by a second stage that expands into low complex orthopedic surgeries like knee and hip replacements as well as diagnostic tests.
