OPP Constable Kerry Schmidt says there have already been fatalities in 2023.
There have been 163 snowmobile deaths in OPP investigated incidents over the past decade, and nearly 40% of these fatalities have occurred on frozen lakes and rivers, so you’re urged to avoid waterways at all times.
Provincial motorcycle and snowmobile coordinator Sgt. Paul Beaton says the best way to head out on the trails is to prepare for the worst.
Riders are reminded to be prepared with extra gloves and coats, tools, candles, and a lighter in case of emergency.
